Shipping

Background

The purpose of this site is to assist members of the University community who may ship or transport Export-Controlled items outside the United States to comply with applicable Export Control requirements. United States Export Control Laws and Regulations may impact the shipment and/or transportation of Export-Controlled items or data outside the United States.

In determining whether a shipment is Export Controlled, individuals must consider:

  • What is being shipped/exported?
  • Where are you shipping/exporting?
  • Who will receive your item?
  • What will your item be used for?

Export Control regulations may impact a variety of different types of items, including:

  • Shipments of certain chemical or biological materials;
  • Transportation of equipment used for research purposes; or
  • Export controlled research data transmitted outside the country.

Unless an Licensing Exclusion applies, if an item is Export-Controlled, a Shipper may be required to secure a license in order to send the materials. If a license is necessary, it may take some time in order to secure.

Shippers should also be aware that sharing, transmitting, or releasing information of Export Controlled items to any Foreign National within the United States may also be controlled as a Deemed Export.

Please visit the shipping procedure tab for more detailed information.
