Procedure

When the University is hiring a foreign national, the Office of Human Resources, International Studies, and the Export Control Officer will work closely to provide information and direction to the Department on the hiring process and Export Control issues.

Whenever a foreign national is offered a position at the University, Human Resources will notify the Export Control Officer (ECO) and International Studies and will provide those offices with a copy of the individual’s resume and country of origin/citizenship. The Export Control Officer will then work with the hiring department to identify any potential export control concerns.

If a project, or assigned duties, is identified as having export control concerns, the Principal Investigator or staff member responsible for the project will be required to:

  • Coordinate with the Export Control Officer regarding training necessary for the project team
  • Work with the Export Control Officer to develop a Technology Control Plan
